Anna joined the club at an early age and rose to great heights. She will occasionally coach at the club and has provided her story as below.

More Anna

I started badminton at the age of 10, joining Baldock Junior BC. I was soon involved in the under 11 county squad, with my coach telling me I had potential. As I took to the game and really enjoyed playing I had 1-1 coaching and started playing on the national circuit.

When I was 13 I went abroad (self-funded by my incredibly supportive parents) and played in many different European tournaments, I was lucky enough to play the Junior International in Vancouver. I gained so much experience competing against players from different countries and also made new friendships.

When I was 14 I was selected to play for England in Denmark in the Danish Junior Cup. It was really exciting going with a team and playing over a few days in a completely different environment playing against foreign players. The atmosphere was incredible.

At 15 I qualified to play in the UK School Games representing England. This was a massive event run each year for elite athletes of many different sports for Ireland, Scotland, Wales and England. (like an Olympic format). In the under 15's I was ranked third in the country.

I thoroughly enjoyed playing badminton at a high level and have gained more confidence and self-belief as well as become much more competitive!!

At 14 I also took up golf and sadly for badminton it took a back seat. I have been playing for 5 years and play off a handicap of 1. My aim in the next couple of years is to turn professional and play on the Ladies European Tour.

I continue to play badminton for a local club in Hertfordshire, have taken my level 1 and 2 badminton coaching qualification, as well as safeguarding and first aid. I coach at local schools in Hertfordshire, as well as individual coaching.

I have been very lucky with the people around me who have supported me and encouraged me to play sport. I love passing on my experience and skills to those who are keen to learn badminton.
